Case Resolution Program at IRS Nationwide Tax Forums

The IRS encourages attendees to bring their toughest, unresolved IRS case (one case per tax business) to the Case Resolution Program at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forums. IRS representatives with specialized expertise will be available — by appointment only — to meet one-on-one with tax professionals to discuss one client’s toughest tax case. If the case cannot be resolved on-site or requires further research, it will be assigned to an appropriate IRS expert for follow-up.

How to Participate in the IRS Case Resolution Program

To participate in the Case Resolution Program, you must present a copy of your Power of Attorney (Form 2848 (PDF)), authorizing disclosure of confidential tax information. Only the practitioner listed on the POA will be allowed in the Case Resolution Room.

To participate in the Case Resolution Program, an attendee of the Tax Forums should schedule an appointment by visiting the Case Resolution table on the Monday before the forum begins from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., or go directly to the Case Resolution Room during the three-day event. To expedite appointment scheduling, an attendee should bring their IRS Form 2848 and a completed Nationwide Tax Forum Case Data Sheet (PDF) with them. The IRS suggests you bring any supporting documents with you to Case Resolution to assist in expediting your case. The program is for client cases only. The IRS is unable to assist you with any personal tax case or any case in which you have a vested interest.

IRS Powerpoint Presentations from Past Nationwide Tax Forums

On its website, the IRS offers a variety of Powerpoint presentations from Tax Forums held in 2015-2019. The presentations include information on exempt organizations topics such as compliance basics, charitable contribution deduction issues, and charitable contribution supporting documents.

IRS Nationwide Tax Forums Online – Archived Resources

The IRS Nationwide Tax Forums Online (NTFO) provides courses based on taped seminars from previous Forums. NTFO seminars may be taken for continuing professional education (CPE) credit. NTFO is registered with the Internal Revenue Service and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as an approved sponsor of continuing professional education for CPAs and Enrolled Agents.
